Configuring EAC pt2

01 | 02

Naming Your Files

Now we need to define how our extracted audio files will be named. Goto your EAC menu at the top left hand corner and select EAC Options from the drop down menu. Left click on the Filename tab.

click on images to see them full size, use browsers back button to get back to this page

The %T in the Naming scheme box dictates that your files will be titled with just the tracks title. For the purposes of this guide we'll show you how to configure EAC to name your files, for single artist albums artist (year) album / track number. title, for various artist albums VA (year) album / tracknumber. artist - title. The slash (/) denotes a folder. For example:

The Beatles (1969) Abbey Road / 01. Here Comes the Sun.mp3 (single artist album)
VA (2000) Sampled 1 CD1 / 05. Patti Page - Old Cape Cod.mp3 (various artist album)

So, in EACs Naming scheme box, input the following text exactly:
%D (%Y) %C\%N. %T

Tick the Use various artist naming scheme check box and enter in there, exactly:
VA (%Y) %C\%N. %A - %T

EAC should now look like this:

You are of course free to name your files how you want.

Do not click OK. If it's too late and you already have, bring back the EAC options window as per the beginning of this section.

Now click on the Tools tab. If you'd like an extraction log, tick the Automatically write status report after extraction check box. The extraction log is a great way to check how one of your rips was extracted. It shows drive type, settings and command line options if you compressed to a lossy/lossless format.
OK your EAC Options window to get back to the main EAC window.

The final thing to check is your drive options. Go to the EAC menu at the top left hand corner and select Drive Options from the drop down menu. Read and then OK the interim window that will pop up. Select the drive tab. With a CD inserted for the relevant drive (the drive will be listed at the very top of the window) press the Auto detect read command now button.

If you'd like to configure EAC to extract to a lossless format go the lossless configuration pages.
Otherwise, Let's Start Ripping!
