| napigator won't launch napster |

Author: dwardmoses (216.40.134.209) Date: 2000-03-06 17:42:00 I'm using different versions of napster for different things...but i generally use 2.0 because the refresh works. Each version is installed in folders with appropriate names.(i.e.napster2.0,napster2.0b5,etc.)However the "Launch Napster" feature of napigator doesn't seem to work. I'm wondering if this is because of the folder names or what.Where does Napigator "look" to launch Napster? More curious than anything. I usually just launch Napster first. Thanx, Dwardmoses |

Author: ger@co (142.165.18.227) Date: 2000-03-06 18:18:00 Napigater does, indeed, look for a folder called "Napster," and it will not recognize anything else. The fact that you load Napster first doesn't matter. Napigator looks for Napster on your hard-drive, not your desktop. I hope this helps. Later. ger@co. |

Author: Jostajack (12.36.100.13) Date: 2000-03-06 22:05:00 Hmm, dunno how Mian or Toasty have the 'detector' setup, but All I do is drop Napi into my Napster folder and start it there. If there is a running instance of Napster, then that will be signaled to connect. If it isn't running, I believe that it'll run the napster.exe in path. Btw, I have a Napi 1.0-1.5 and Napster 2b3-b5(a) and I switch back and forth between them all without minimal difficulties. Okay did a lil playing around... Since Mian or Toasty aren't handy... I'll give a guess. Napi looks at the registry setting for where Napster is and uses that to start it up. Unless Napster is already running in which case it uses that. So to make sure things work properly... Uninstall and reinstall Napster so the registry settings are correct and don't rename napster.exe to anything else... ;) Oh and check your Napi settings to make sure that either Launch Napster On Startup or Launch Napster On Server Selection is checked in. located at File | settings |

When i reinstalled, i used the default names(napster) really not a big deal cuz everything else works fine as long as napster is already running.Just would be nice to have the auto launch feature. Author: EASYMAC1 (207.19.5.84) Date: 2000-03-07 00:21:00 PLEASE!...all i want to do is to be able to install NAPI I have d/l it and it said i need the MFC42.DLL file..so I clickd on the link to do that...but now it says that the .DLL file is corrupt and a device attatched to the system is not funcioning....I haven't gotten any responses to this question..please tell me something...even if it is just to get a life! |

Author: Jostajack (12.36.100.13) Date: 2000-03-07 00:21:00 Not recommended, but you can either use regedit/regedt32 to clean up the registries and make sure the path is what you wanted it to be. Or use regmaid/regclean which is available somewhere hidden on M$s site. You do have your settings in Napi set? |

Author: dwardmoses (216.40.133.151) Date: 2000-03-07 11:30:00 OK...for whatever reason, Napi will not launch napster 2.0. After re-installing 2.0beta5, however, it'll launch that just fine. If anyone knows why the launch Napster feature of Napi doesn't work with napster 2.0, I'm a bit curious. I guess for now, I'll just continue to open Napster 2.0 before I open Napigator. That has the path to Napster and is called by Napi Since you installed b5 it puts in the path in the registry... could be that 2.0 didn't put in a registry key for path. hmm |

Author: mian (202.12.71.6) Date: 2000-03-07 20:55:00 napigator uses the registry to detect napster's install path, this works for b5 but b3 doesn't use the registry.. if you want you can manually add the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Napster InstallPath = "C:\Program Files\Napster" just put the path, no napster.exe, this will be appended by Napigator. |
